Slider button moves okay. AA batteries still operate camera. Camera just like new, one owner-me, but used infrequently. I know the batteries are backed by a spring to help flip the door open. I can't imagine what the problem might be. Anyone ever had this problem ? Any ideas ?

These small camera battery doors usually use a button to release the door from a small piece of plastic that holds it latched. I would try to use the button and some pressure to push the door sideways. If you are luck enough to finesse it past the latch without the latch part on the camera snapping there are replacement doors that can be found online it seems. Otherwise you can tape it shut, I would fret too much over a old point and shoot, phone cameras exceed these now days easily. :)
