    Hi all,
Appreciate some advice. I have the above setup for Bird Photography but I'm finding the AF is very hit and miss. Using Spot AF, I find the AF takes some time to acquire focus and then it seems to lose it very easily, or fades in and out. I know some of that is because of my inability to keep the spot steady.
I'm wondering if others are finding similar issues, and or, anyone has any ideas on any setting changes that may help.

You will probably want to use continuous or servo mode and keep your shutter half pressed to continue tracking focus on the bird shots, panning with the bird as it flies. Some other things you may already be doing are using a fast shutter and back button focus.

Thanks for that response Johnsey but I do all that. The issue is more when the bird is stationary. Focus will sometimes latch on, then be lost, regained , lost etc. It seems to happen even when I have good contrast between the subject and background. I will then have to réacquire focus by finding something else nearby and recompose quickly before it goes again! Oh well, I’ll just keep experimenting and trying. Thought someone may have had a pearl of wisdom to share!

Doesn't the R5 have an animal focus programme that's meant to lock onto the animals eyes?
