    Hi
I have a Canon D500 but it didn't have an sd card when I bought it, when I insert a new scan disk 64gb into the camera, it brings up the message the card can't be accessed and format the card. Any ideas ?

The card being new I assume is in FAT32 format, so that is not likely the issue with the camera reading it.
You don't have the write lock switch turned on do you? Did you tray inserting it a few times just for good measure?
Does it let you format, the card should be formatted by the camera using the process on page 40 of the manual when ever you introduce a new card to that camera.

The Canon 500D supports both SC and SDHC cards. The SDHC specification is from 2GB to 32GB. 64GB cards are not supported.
Try a smaller card and format it in-camera as @johnsey suggests.

welcome Ian, as Ray and Johnsey have suggested to you format the card in camera, another issues there is someone here to help, now if you want to test the card out, the monthly challenge is "signs" so have a go and put up a image.

One can't help wondering why people ask a question and then never seem to come back to see if it has been answered.
Sometimes I wonder if it is worth the effort.

Ray, I think some people when they ask questions do so to test the water so to speak to see if they like the forum, out of every 20 or so one or two will stick around and these are the ones who contribute to the forum.
Have a look at how many people are listed as being members and then look at how many of them actually have a far bit of input. now look at those who do give some input, only a few of those are the glue that keeps the forum going, you will find this with other forums or groups.

Yes, you could be right, Craig. I didn't know the answer to the question but it only took a little bit of research to find the answer and a bit of rat cunning to know what to look for. As a result, I also learnt something so I benefited but it would be nice to know if it solved the OPs problem.
I won't give up trying to help people if I think I know the answer to their problem. It's worth it if only a few acknowledge your assistance.

I do not contribute very often, more with a problem than any thing else, but I do like reading about other peoples problems, and admiring a lot of the members photos, so don't give up!
