I have the 24-70ii lens already for my 6D but I would like to add a prime lens to my kit. I am contemplating the sigma 35 art and the 50 art. I like the idea of adding one of these two because I feel like they can provide a more unique style that my 24-70 can't (bokeh and low light). I also already have the canon 50 f1.8 but although its a good lens for the price, it's not my favorite lens. I like the idea of the 50 for portraits of my daughter but I feel like the 35 is generally more my style because of it's versatility but does that make sense if I already have a 24-70 and I want a good portrait lens? I feel like most people would agree to get the 35 since I already have a 50 but I'd be fine replacing that lens and never using it again. Any advice/input is welcomed. Thank you!

I'd recommend the 35mm especially if you already have the 50mm.

    Also welcome to the site!

I rented the 35 and it’s a great lens, but if you’re looking for a portrait lens how about the 85mm Sigma art lens?

I agree. On full frame you are better off with an 85mm for portraits.

We'll it sounds like your kinda leaning to the 35mm, which I would be inclined to agree. You have the nifty 50, which i own and is ok if you stop down a bit, but I upgraded to the Canon 1.4. I also think its worth considering an 85mm on full frame for portraits as well as a 50mm. You could grab both the canon 50 1.4 and 85 1.8 for the price of an Art lens. Food for thought.

The thing is, I don’t want just a portrait lens which I feel like the 85 is primarily a portrait lens, whereas the 35 and 50 have more versatility. I like the bokeh the 50 art has and the fact I can stand back a bit for a portrait shot but I like the versatility a 35 has for street photography. Either lens I know I’d be happy with, I’m just torn as to which would be more useful for my purposes. Realistically, I don’t know how much I’d actually use the lens since I already have a great lens in those ranges with the 24-70 but with these primes I can get that nice bokeh and it would mainly be used for shots of my daughter and also the occasional night out on the town when traveling.
